Alternative Nativity

By reinvesting stained glass windows, one of the first means of Western communication, "Alternative Nativity" is a reflection on the place of women and mothers in Western society and the need to create alternative benchmarks.

Taking the usual place of "Mary", the witch, symbol of emancipation, questions and reconsiders the use of the word "nature" as a pretext to impose a destiny or a normed behaviour such as motherhood by injecting new contemporary symbolism such as phantasm and desire.
Indeed, while the woman has only been perceived as a mother for a very long time, her pleasure has never been part of her identity.

If women are often less paid, often less present in important positions than men – marginalised for centuries; in politics, in history, in religious institutions, is it possible to ask whether today feminism and religion are incompatible?
If this seems impossible from a feminist position, there are nevertheless women who claim this dual grounding.. Religious practice can be used as a lever to change values and reinterpret the role of women in patriarchal religious imagery and discourse.
The witch placed within this religious framework allows for the reinvestment of environments where women's freedom has been threatened (especially during the witch hunts) and projects new images from the inside out into the future.

The project does not deny the heritage of the past but gives a more contemporary and inclusive dimension.

Alternative Nativity
