Extimacy

Installation with open consultations


	The Extimal Office makes patients' inner emotions visible by turning their words into droplets of condensation as they speak in a glass bubble; through extimacy, intimate stories become matter. This materialisation of consciousness can be liberating. 
The doctor or extimologist helps to represent silent or unspoken thoughts. The patient can then see beyond the current systems into a world where the psychic becomes physical. 
Extimacity is an installation in which science and mysticism are mixed.

Cooking Ghosts
Researching elficology

	How can we reimagine the richness of our cultural relationships with plants and nature through the imaginary creatures they inhabit?

Cooking Ghosts is a project based on research done by elficologists into the diet of elves and other folkloric creatures: morning dew, primrose and dandelion wine, snail and slug slime liqueur and more. Elven food has no limits, offering a creative vision on how we consume and harvest the earth's resources. The project offers workshops on the harvesting of elven ingredients and takes as its final form a performative and narrative dinner. In addition to its pleasant fantasy, the magical thinking of this project aims to raise awareness about the ecosystems that surround us, fighting against the ambient feeling of eco-anxiety by creating an original dialogue between man and nature, giving birth to what can be described as "eco-fairy".
People were welcome to taste Morning Dew!

	Pauline
Rip is
a designer of ignored, mocked, marginalized, irrational and even

Non historical reenactment -Our Ancestors the Gauls 
How
can a national narrative overtake history and charm an audience
?“Our
ancestors the Gauls were tall, had blue eyes, blond hair and a thick,
drooping mustache” is what French pupils in elementary school
during the Third Republic learned in their history books. This
sentence seems problematic today for many reasons, notably
multicultural and multiethnic, however, it is still part of the
political landscape. Numerous French political figures such as
Nicolas Sarkozy, Marine Le Pen, Charles de Gaulle and very recently
Emmanuel Macron have mentioned the Gaul, presenting him as this
unique and absolute original ancestor, with a proud and warlike
temperament. Unfortunately there appears to be temptation to be
charmed by a valiant and romantic heritage, although this vision of
the past excludes many. Pandering to a vision of a white,
blond-haired, clear-eyed representative historic figure is not
accessible to all.This
is the whole point of the affair: that a simple and naive
illustration of a Gallic camp in a school textbook can be
extrapolated into a national identity crisis, fanning anger and
social fractures around a nostalgic mirage.Non-historical
reenactments - “Our ancestors the Gauls” makes
use of the malleability of history, and takes advantage of the
subjectivity of national narratives to slip in an alternative version
of the heritage of France. Challenging the power structures of
historical and cultural knowledge and its transmission through
educational tools such as textbooks, documentaries and archaeological
museum scenographies, the project plays on the identity of the Gaul,
and will be a romantic, de-virilised being, reinterpreting
archaeological objects intended for warrior chariots for head
jewellery and turning his famous braid into a hair monument.This
recovery of historical narratives allows us to ask the question: how
do we represent a future we want to live in?

Riding Ghosts
Seeing
isn’t believing but believing is seeing… even if you have been
looking through your mind’s eye. We can all think up the image of
the Loch Ness monster (Nessie) with its whale like body and small
head, or picture a Yeti roaming Himalayan mountains with a body
covered in reddish-brown hair. As humans we have a natural ability to
reason the unreasonable and make sense of the obscure, Nessie and
Yeti have never been found but they still live in Scotland and the
Himalayas.Emma
Singleton, journalist.From
a in-depth research and developed admiration for the illogical beauty
of these animals,“Riding
Ghosts” poetically works to harness their control. Through the data
gathered by the cryptozoologists and help from a statistician, two
bespoke saddles are presented. These technical objects highlight our
ability to theorise the invisible, and therefore domesticate it.
»By
materialising 'irrational' data into an object of domestication, the
chimeras come to life: the saddles are beautiful, credible,
technical, the curves align with the measurements established by the
researchers. Suddenly, the existence of these ghostly creatures is no
longer to be proven, because true or false, they have given shape to
a physical reality where we have succeeded in dominating the
unseen.“Riding
Ghosts” can be seen as a design reaction to the anguish of a modern
world in need of great discoveries and thrills ; it plays with levels
of&#38;nbsp; plausibility and allows the audience to confront their own
beliefs and create discussion, and even polemics : does something
have to true to be valuable ?

UNESCO Ghosts’ files
How
do we establish the relevance of a knowledge area? Who decides its
importance? Does something have to be true to be valuable and worth
preserving?Based
on discoveries and UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage criteria, I
have designed three fictional cultural practices – the harvesting
of morning dew, inspired by elficology and alchemy; the tanning of
the skins of reptilian humanoids, as narrated in a widespread
conspiracy theory; and finally a monument dedicated to the Bigfoot’s
growl, as studied by cryptozoologists."That's
one small step for Bigfoot, one giant leap for rationalists"
brings together creative bubbles that disturb the rationality of
Science and History, producing stories that are as romantic as they
are controversial. By using a cultural heritage organisation as a
tool of power, and by merging authentic and constructed realities, it
is possible to make use of design to challenge our beliefs and our
value systems, and eventually to redefine the way we want to live in
our societies. This work echoes an increasingly connected society,
where the fake sometimes seems more real than the real “real”,
and highlights a very human paradox: our obsession with truth and our
eagerness to escape from it - a paradox as healthy as it is
dangerous.

This has a direct and positive impact on the visibility of dew harvester communities and on the awareness of their richness in terms of living heritage practices, craftsmanship and creativity: an extremely rich medicinal, festive and cultural heritage that reflects the ecological attributes of the land and constitutes an important aspect of local cultural resources.

UNESCO Ghosts’ files
How
do we establish the relevance of a knowledge area? Who decides its
importance? Does something have to be true to be valuable and worth
preserving?Based
on discoveries and UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage criteria, I
have designed three fictional cultural practices – the harvesting
of morning dew, inspired by elficology and alchemy; the tanning of
the skins of reptilian humanoids, as narrated in a widespread
conspiracy theory; and finally a monument dedicated to the Bigfoot’s
growl, as studied by cryptozoologists."That's
one small step for Bigfoot, one giant leap for rationalists"
brings together creative bubbles that disturb the rationality of
Science and History, producing stories that are as romantic as they
are controversial. By using a cultural heritage organisation as a
tool of power, and by merging authentic and constructed realities, it
is possible to make use of design to challenge our beliefs and our
value systems, and eventually to redefine the way we want to live in
our societies. This work echoes an increasingly connected society,
where the fake sometimes seems more real than the real “real”,
and highlights a very human paradox: our obsession with truth and our
eagerness to escape from it - a paradox as healthy as it is
dangerous.
